“Lucky you.”

I had an amazing 8th grade English teacher.

Her name was Mrs. Anton.

She was brilliant, funny, witty, and had even more spunk than her energetic students.

One day the rowdiest kid in our class, asked Mrs. Anton, “What’s your level of education?” (clearly trying to get a rise out of the class and her)

Mrs. Anton calmly reported back that she had a masters degree from Stanford.

This squirrelly 8th grade boy immediately shouted back to Mrs. Anton,

“You have a degree from Stanford?!?!

What are you doing teaching a bunch of junior high kids!?”

Mrs. Anton, in her attitude of supreme self-worth and confidence, smirked and said to the boy,

“Lucky you.”

It was a classic “drop the mic” moment.

This really struck me.

To see Mrs. Anton respond with such poise.

The lesson I took from that moment was to be confident in who you are. No need to boast and brag, walk in humility, but don't downplay the worth you have.

Verses to consider:

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you.”

1 Peter 5:6

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.”

James 4:10

“Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear;

though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.”

Psalm 27:3

Your next steps:

Ask yourself:

“Am I walking in humility?”

Challenge yourself with the question:

“Do I live with an unhealthy need/desire to prove myself to others?”

But then ask yourself at the same time, “Do I believe in who God has made me to be?”

“Do I live my life with a true perspective of self-worth?”

These questions are great to ask yourself.

Take time today to take inventory of where you are with this.

Would you be flustered with snarky questions like that 8th grader asked? Or would you respond with grace, kindness but full confidence in what God has given you and made you to be?

Asking these questions helps.

Today, walk in a perfect marriage of confidence and humility.

Know who you are, but most importantly, in relation to God, remember Who’s you are.

Much
love,

Lowery
